Dr. Sean X. Hesler
is the Executive Director of Naturopaths Without Borders. Before graduating from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Sean accumulated over 300 clinical hours in global health while elevating NWB from a student organization to the global organization it is today. He co-founded the MamaBaby Haiti birth center in Cap Haitien as Medical Director and Staff Physician for 9 months and now travels between NWB’s sites in Haiti, Mexico, and Phoenix. Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine bestowed upon him the SCNM Alumni Award for Community Service and he has written for Naturopathic Doctor News and Review and spoken for the Naturopathic Medical Student Association, New York University, the University of Arizona, AT Still University, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, Bastyr University, and National College of Natural Medicine.
In addition to his Executive Director and doctoring duties, Dr. Sean teaches medical students, creates all of NWB’s pictures and movies, drives the motaptap and continues his lifelong martial arts training with Haitian Judo. Dr. Sean has chosen to dedicate his life to global Naturopathic Medicine, striving to bridge the gap between Naturopathic Physicians/students and underserved communities worldwide.
Dr. Sarah Preston Hesler
is a founding member and the Director of Operations for Naturopaths Without Borders. She is a Naturopathic Physician licensed in the state of Arizona. She received her medical degree in 2010 from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and prior to that, she graduated cum laude from the University of North Dakota in 2006 with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Health Sciences Emphasis. Throughout her time at SCNM, Dr. Sarah was active in the Student Government where she served as President in 2008 and volunteered frequently with Naturopaths Without Borders when it was a student group, logging a total of more than 200 clinical volunteer hours. Dr. Sarah has worked in Haiti since 2010 first as a Medical Director for MamaBaby Haiti where she was instrumental in starting community education and childhood malnutrition programs, and more recently at NWB’s own clinic sites. She has worked with thousands of patients in Haiti, Mexico and the United States, and regularly rotates through NWB’s clinic sites. She was a 2011 co-recipient of the SCNM Alumni Award for Community Service. Dr. Sarah is passionate about working with women and children, especially before, during and after pregnancy. She is the co-founder and CEO of Dr. Sarah’s, LLC which produces a nutritional supplement for pregnant women called ProNatal (™) Wellness, to reduce morning sickness and increase nutrition. Dr. Sarah lives in Phoenix, AZ where she sees patients privately, mentors students, and answers to every whim of her boxer, Obi. She loves to cook, play the piano, garden, read and do yoga. She is driven by the belief that health-care is a human right; something that everyone should have access to.
Dr. Zeenia Junkeer
is a Naturopathic physician who specializes in public health programs and care that directly support community members who face the greatest inequities. Her work has taken her internationally which has provided an opportunity to learn about how global and public health practices often create a cascade of unintended consequences when programs, policies and care fail to take into account the experiences and wisdom of the community members they intend to serve. A passion for community health lead Dr. Zeenia to Haiti to join colleagues from NWB in working to build community capacity through empowerment and support of medical care aimed at treating the root cause of disease. Dr. Zeenia has a passion for community education programs, garden projects, contraception programs and teaching neonatal resuscitation for birth attendants or ‘Matwons’, all of which allowed her to merge her love of education and learning with clinical practice. This holistic approach to health empowers people to take control of their lives and their health which is vital to the success of sustainable wellness and access to information communities deserve regarding their well-being. In the U.S. Dr. Zeenia works as the CHW Program Coordinator at the Urban League of Portland and the Maternal and Child Health Project Lead at the Oregon Public Health Institute. She is also a board member of the Breastfeeding Coalition of Oregon (BCO). In her spare time she enjoys spending time in nature, hanging out with other people’s children and getting as close to a beach as possible.
is an entrepreneur, author, speaker, trainer and humanitarian. She is a childbirth educator, doula and doula trainer, and regularly travels to third-world countries to work with local midwives and pregnant and birthing women. She also owns Raw Melissa LLC, a for-profit food company that has successfully been in business nearly a decade, and is the author of Purposeful Eating and FAVES – Fruits and Veggies, Energy’s Secret. She just launched the brand new website, MelissaChappell.com and is thrilled to be supporting women in a more gentle and happy approach to health through that medium.
Melissa also coaches individuals on their path to healthier eating and has taught hundreds of people how to easily integrate good nutrition and happiness into their lives. She just released her second cookbook, “Melt in Your Mouth” and is currently working on a new book on nutrition in pregnancy. She regularly speaks to organizations on business, health and birth and specializes in teaching women to take a gentler and happier approach to health.
Dr. Yves Moliere Jean Louis, NMD
is a firm believer in integrative Medicine and Global Health. During his Pre-Med undergraduate Studies and his Epidemiology and Environmental Health Masters studies, Dr. Yves solace was to travel, educate and volunteer to any local or international community that was medically and socially underserved. He was among the first members of NWB’s charter student group founded at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, and presently is honored to be a Board Member of NWB Global. Working with many Haitian empowering organizations (NWB Haiti, MamaBaby Haiti, Lumiere Medical Mission, FILSECCAM), Yves has a regrown infatuation for Haiti, the country of his ancestors. Since pronouncing his Medical oath he has instructed at SCNM and numerous facilities but has recently retained a nursing degree, as he believes a good doctor ought to be a great nurse and teacher. Currently he practices integrative medicine and teaches at a nursing establishment.
